Dr. Lawrence S. Chan
joins PPS Medical Advisory Board

The Pemphigus & Pemphigoid Society is especially pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Lawrence S. Chan to the Medical Advisory Board.

"Dr. Chan is a widely known and highly respected authority in blistering diseases, including pemphigus and pemphigoid." Said PPS President Sal Capo. "This is a major honor for us and we look forward to working with Dr. Chan to educate physicians and patients worldwide."

Dr. Chan is the Director of Skin Immunology Research at the University of Illinois College of Medicine where he also teaches dermatology and microbiology/immunology. Dr. Chan is also on the staff at the Skin Immunology Research Laboratory and, the Veterans Administration Laboratory, both in Chicago.

He has a Bachelor of Science degrees in Life Sciences and Chemical Engineering. His Medical Degree is from the University of Pennsylvania.

His postgraduate training includes the National Research Service Award Grant from the National Institutes of Health Vision Research Training, at the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Chan served his Internship in Medicine at Cooper Hospital/University Medical Center, Rutgers Medical School, Camden, New Jersey. His residency was at the University of Michigan School of Medicine, Ann Arbor, Michigan where was provided a Fellowship in Immunodermatology.

He is certified Diplomat with the National Board of Medical Examiners, and the American Board of Dermatology. Dr. Chan has received many awards and honors, including the Henry Christian Memorial Award for Excellence in Research from the American Federation of Clinical Research in 1991.

Among professional societies to which he belongs are the Society for Investigative Dermatology, the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society for Investigative Pathology, and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
